Passion Projects:
Overview of the Inquiry
Dreams:
Personalised learning is a college wide goal this year. We are very much at the exploration stage. The College Leadership Team went to visit some schools in the US who follow a model of personalized learning and were inspired to explore the idea at Discovery College.
In addition to this College-wide goal, the Year 5 Team decided to investigate Personalized Learning as part of our Performance Management goals and Professional Learning Pathways. We decided to explore ‘Genius Hour’ style approaches; students following their passions through personal inquiries.
We hope to investigate whether or not allowing them to do this (choose their own inquiry) will develop their skills in all their inquiries.
Mysteries
We wonder:
What will be the effect of increased student choice in inquiry learning?
How can the practicalities be managed within the team?
How can we balance this personal inquiry time with the demands of fitting in the rest of the curriculum? What will have to go to allow time for this?
How can it be integrated into the existing programme?
How can it be pitched so it’s valid for everyone involved and ensures buy-in?
How can our pilot study influence the rest of the college?
